Last week we had our 24th DevOps&AI meetup, first one this year. This time we had two speakers and a lightning talk as well.
Topics presented included “Predictive Incident Management with LLMs” by Stefano Amorelli and “AI Vector Search in Oracle 23ai Database” by Edgars Ruņģis.
Video presentation can be found on our youtube channel.
Stefano talk focused on shifting incident management from reactive to predictive by using Vertex AI for analyzing logs, commits and user reports for automatic possible incident remediation. This approach is still experimental and main challenges are latency, data quality and scalability, especially for smaller teams. LLMs in incident prediction might have a potential to achieve a “zero-incident” environment by learning from past incidents.
Edgars discussed the integration of AI vector search capabilities in Oracle’s latest database release, enabling semantic search over unstructured data. Unlike traditional keyword-based searches, semantic search understands the meaning behind queries, allowing for more accurate results (e.g., searching for “big animals” returns results for elephants, giraffes, etc.). Data (text, images, videos) is converted into vectors (sequences of numbers) using embedding models, enabling similarity searches based on vector distances. Oracle has introduced a new vector data type, extended SQL syntax, and specialized indexes to optimize vector search performance. Vector search is particularly useful for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, where it provides context to LLMs by searching through vectorized organizational data.
Lauris Lauskis lightning talk touched on the importance of understanding missing data and avoiding logical errors in decision-making, drawing parallels from historical events like World War II bomber analysis.
The first DevOps & AI Meetup of 2025 set the stage for an exciting year ahead! We presented cutting-edge AI applications in incident management and databases, explored how AI is transforming workflows, and had great discussions.
Thanks to our General Partner Arvato Systems we had pizzas and drinks as well. As usual our cozy premises by Workland Telegraph, many thanks!
Thank you to everyone who joined us, participated in discussions, and helped make this event a success. Don’t forget to join our Slack channel – Techies of Baltics, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for recordings of past meetups. See you at the next event!
